Who is Conygar?

The Conygar Investment Company PLC is an AIM quoted property investment and development group dealing primarily in UK property. Using our property management, development and transaction structuring skills, and together with our partners listed here, we are proud to develop this new chapter for Nottingham.

The Island Quarter is just a ten minute walk from Nottingham’s historic Lace Market, and can also be reached on the Number 44 bus, or by tram (stopping at Nottingham Railway Station). For more information on how to find The Island Quarter, visit our Getting Here page.

The Island Quarter is a 36-acre site that will be truly mixed use, with leisure, hospitality, hotels and nearly 1,000 new homes – all centred on high-quality green space. For more on what will be built on The Island Quarter, visit our Masterplan page.

The Conygar Investment Company purchased The Island Quarter in 2016 and is regenerating the 36-acre site.

The opening phase of The Island Quarter – featuring restaurants Binks Yard and Cleaver & Wake – opened in 2022.

The second phase of The Island Quarter is a 693-bed student accommodation campus, which will open in time for the 2024/25 academic year.

Industry began on The Island Quarter in the 1800s when Nottingham’s early entrepreneurs set up in business. Flanked by canals and called ‘The Island,’ the area swiftly became home to lace-makers, cotton traders and drug companies. For more about the history of the site, visit our Why Nottingham page.

The Boots Drug Co moved onto the site in 1890s with a small pharmacy before expanding, eventually occupying the whole site before leaving in 1996. For more about the history of the site, visit our Why Nottingham page.

Since Boots closed its operations on the site in 1996, there have been several proposals for new uses. However, the current masterplan is the first that has progressed beyond the outline planning stage, which was granted in 2019.

The first phase of The Island Quarter is now open – 1 The Island Quarter is an all day, canal-side destination with restaurants, bars, live entertainment and space for private hire. The entire project will take ten years to complete.
