Nottingham’s The Island Quarter venue to be elevated by an appointed international operator

Nottingham’s The Island Quarter has made a significant move in the canalside venue’s future growth by appointing international operator Rhubarb Hospitality Collection (RHC) to lead Cleaver & Wake, Binks Yard and the associated brands.

A thriving and rapidly growing location in Nottingham’s dining and events scene, the appointment of RHC is a positive step that will support ambitious growth plans for the 1 The Island Quarter venues. From the Royal Albert Hall to Sky Garden and Mamma Mia! The Party, RHC is behind the success of some of the country’s most established food and events spaces and will bring the same flair to Nottingham.

The appointment has been made by Conygar, the investment company behind the 36-acre Island Quarter site.

Christopher Ware, managing director at Conygar, said: “Since launching Binks Yard and Cleaver & Wake in 2022, we have been welcomed to the Nottingham hospitality scene with an incredible reception, which has allowed us to continue to grow and develop. We now have a packed events calendar on the Binks Terrace and are a staple for corporate occasions and weddings at Upstairs at Cleaver & Wake.

“It’s a natural progression for us to elevate our offering by appointing an operator and RHC’s experience is unparalleled. I look forward to working with the team to continue to bring our vision for the wider Island Quarter to life and provide a range of experiences for people in Nottinghamshire and beyond.”

1TIQ guests can expect a seamless transition and will start to see the positive changes in the coming months from the RHC team, to increase and refine the offering across the venues. Having previously turned spaces into music, dance and corporate destinations, including internationally in New York, RHC is ideally placed to support 1TIQ’s future success.

P.B Jacobse, chief executive officer, RHC, said: “We are looking forward to evolving and developing the hospitality offering at Island Quarter, reaffirming it as Nottingham’s premier destination for dining, entertainment and events. We’re delighted to be working with Conygar and the existing team and look forward to announcing some new projects for Island Quarter.”

In celebration of International Women’s Day, The Island Quarter has announced an all-female line up of local musicians for an event collaborating to raise money for Nottingham domestic abuse charity JUNO Women’s Aid.

Taking place inside canalside destination Binks Yard on Saturday 8 March, the free-to-attend event will feature an evening filled with inspiring music to celebrate the talent, resilience, and creativity of women in the Nottingham community. The event will be headlined by local rising star singer-songwriter Georgie, who will be performing from 4pm to 5:30pm, followed by Jessica Clarke-Wheatley, an established Nottingham singer, from 6pm to 7:30pm.

Liam Morgan, business development manager at 1 The Island Quarter, said: “Having supported JUNO for several years as a cause close to our hearts, International Women’s Day is the perfect opportunity to raise further awareness and funds for the charity, which offers incredible support and safety, empowering women across Nottingham.

“The Island Quarter is committed to fostering inclusivity and supporting meaningful initiatives across Nottingham, and we’re excited to welcome everyone to Binks Yard for an amazing evening with JUNO to mark this momentous day for women.”

As part of the celebration, The Island Quarter will be donating ten per cent of the net revenue generated in the evening across the bar and restaurant to JUNO, supporting its critical work helping women and children experiencing domestic abuse.

Tasarla Larner, fundraising and communications manager at JUNO, said: “We are incredibly excited to be part of this inspiring event and grateful to The Island Quarter and Binks Yard for their continued support. Events like this highlight the strength, creativity, and resilience of women in our community, including the courageous survivors we work with every day. Together, we can create a future where women and children can live safely and thrive.”

New Island Quarter app introduced to reward loyal customers

NOTTINGHAM leisure destination, The Island Quarter has launched a new app and rewards scheme to help customers get the most out of their visit to the popular site.

The new Island Club app will be available for use across all upcoming Island Quarter venues as well as finer dining restaurant Cleaver & Wake, and canalside food, drinks and entertainment venue, Binks Yard, which are already open and located at the development’s flagship building, 1 The Island Quarter.

Available to download at both the Apple app store and Google Play, the app will allow customers to earn points as they spend, which converts to cashback to redeem at future Island Quarter visits, as well as access to exclusive in-app offers.

App users will also be able to receive early access to tickets for live events on the Binks Yard popular outdoor terrace and invitations to members-only events or previews of new menus. In addition, they can book restaurant tables, and stay up to date on everything that’s happening across the whole Island Quarter leisure complex.

Each customer who downloads the free app will automatically receive 500 points, which equates to £5 off any meal or drinks on their next visit.

Arpita Anstey, marketing director at The Island Quarter said: “We’re so excited to launch our new Island Club app. We’re really passionate about doing all we can to elevate the Island Quarter experience and the launch of this new app is a key part of that.

“With two Island Quarter venues already open, customers can already enjoy exquisite food and experiential dining from Cleaver & Wake, as well as big flavours and a calendar full of unmissable events at Binks Yard, but this app will help them make those experiences go even further.

“Those who download the app will be able to access a range of fantastic deals and rewards over the coming months at both Binks Yard and Cleaver & Wake, but as more venues open across the whole Island Quarter site over the coming years, Island Club members will have even more opportunities to reap even more benefits.”

For every £1 spent, customers will receive five points which translates to a five per cent cashback reward. Meaning, if they spend £50, they’ll earn 250 points and £2.50 cashback to redeem at a later date at a participating Island Quarter venue.

To earn points, app users will simply need to ask an Island Quarter team member to scan their unique QR code in the app, and once scanned, their points will be available for use within 15 minutes.

Customers will also be able to redeem their club points when they order food and drink through the app at Binks Yard, Cleaver & Wake and other future participating venues.

Arpita, added: “The new app is for the people of Nottingham to truly get the most out of all The Island Quarter has to offer, both now and in the future. As the site develops over the course of the next few years, the app will expand its offering to other establishments on the site, offering a little something extra to the whole Island Quarter experience.”

The Island Quarter is an exciting mixed-use development and unique, not just for Nottingham but for the Midlands and the UK. The 36-acre site will be totally transformed to bring new homes, grade A office space, creative spaces, a lifestyle hotel, PRS apartments and co-working space, retail units, a ‘linear’ park and vibrant community and event space, as well as student accommodation to the city.

The Island Club app is available to download on all iOS and android devices. To find out more, visit The Island Club page.

The carbonara pizza made with Lincolnshire poacher cheese, sprouting broccoli and egg offers a twist on a classic, while the hot melanzane pizza with aubergine, jerk spices and a mango salsa is perfect for those with a more daring taste.

Lewis said: “I refined my tastes by working in kitchens where seasonal ingredients were key. Food is fantastic in all of its forms, and I wanted to reflect this within our menu at Binks Yard.

“We’re guided by fresh, seasonal ingredients and will always strive to present them in a way that can make them shine – whether that’s smoked on a barbeque or boiled down into a glaze.”

A menu highlight, Lewis notes, is the maple glazed oyster mushroom tacos, offering a sweet, smokey flavour with a sumptuous texture, served with a homemade tomatillo and chipotle salsa.

Meanwhile, meat-lovers can also indulge in the Binks blue burger with stilton cheese and red onion jam, while pescatarians can sample the finest miso cod served with edamame, broad beans, peas and miso sauce. Plant-based options include teriyaki tofu with compressed watermelon, courgetti and gem salad.

Lewis added: “It was important to create a menu that’s diverse and offers something for every taste, and I really think we’ve managed to achieve that. This was undoubtedly down to our team, who I encourage to share ideas and I’m proud to say that they’ve had a real input into this menu too.”

John Whitehead, food, beverage and events project director, at The Island Quarter said: “Since our launch last year, we’ve worked hard to make Binks Yard space people choose to come back to time and time again, and our menus are big part of that.

“Lewis and the team have carefully curated a selection of new dishes that really elevate our food offering for the keen foodies of Nottingham, factoring in lots of popular flavours such as refreshing watermelon, zingy miso, and the much-loved luxurious notes of truffle.”

The new menu is now available at Binks Yard, with main dishes ranging from £7.50 to £20. Guests can also enjoy the new dishes as part of Binks Yard’s two-course lunch menu for £15.

MORE THAN 185 pupils from Nottingham Girls’ High School have taken part in a sponsored Countryfile Ramble through Nottingham city centre, raising over £1600 for Children in Need.

On Friday 18 November, the students – aged between three and 11 years old set out to prove it’s possible to walk five miles along Nottingham’s waterways without crossing any roads, before being hosted for lunch at Binks Yard midway through the walk

Mark Cox, school consultant teacher at Nottingham Girls’ High School, said: “It’s so important for our pupils to take part in fundraisers such as Children in Need, and this challenge was a great way for them to be physically active and raise money for a very worthy cause. The walk was a wonderful day out for all as it also allowed us to take in the beauty of Nottingham’s famous waterways, which often go overlooked.

“We were kindly sponsored by Nottingham Express Transit, who transported us to and from the start and finish point. A big thank you to Binks Yard who also allowed our students to use the venue’s fabulous new outdoor entertainment area during lunch.”

Binks Yard, which recently opened this year, is easily located from the Nottingham Canal towpath.

Ben Hicklin, head of events at 1 The Island Quarter, said: “Being a part of the Nottingham community is hugely important to us at 1 The Island Quarter but it’s particularly special to support children from a prominent local school. It was great to see the students enjoying our new outdoor space and along with our newly installed large screen. A big well done to all who took part and helped raise money for such a fantastic cause.”

Children In Need is the BBC’s UK charity and since 1980 has raised more than £1.5 billion pounds for disadvantaged children and young people in the UK. All money raised from the ramble will be donated to the charity.
